Marianne Dunn

My paintings , mostly in oils, are my response to the things that speak to me visually and emotionally—scenes with strong values, simple shapes and exciting color whether it be a landscape, a street scene or a still life.”

“I try to use color and light to express my feelings about the things I am drawn to paint.  I want my paintings to express what I feel about life—joyfulness and a certain largeness of spirit, not getting caught up in small details.  Painting is not only a way of expressing myself but a way to share what I have been given.” Marianne Dunn

Marianne Dunn is a well-known artist whose work hangs in public and private collections throughout the country.  She received her BFA from Wesleyan College where she feels fortunate to have studied with Emil Holzhauer, a student of Robert Henri. She furthered her arts education at The Parsons School of Design in New York City.  For three years she studied with noted Atlanta artist Quida Canaday.

Before marriage and a family, Marianne worked in Atlanta as a fashion artist.  When her children were old enough she combined her love of travel and painting with trips to Europe, the Middle East and the Far East, painting and sketching and collecting material for future works.

Ms. Dunn has won numerous awards including the “Distinguished in a Profession” award given by the Wesleyan Alumni Association. Most recently she won “Best in Show” at the Perry Fine Arts Festival, June 2017. She has been featured in The Artist Magazine and other publications.
