Lucy Browning

Born near the lowcountry in South Carolina, Lucy Browning spent her childhood around the scenes that would later inspire her – old structures, marshes and old fishing boats.

The love of this area has expanded through travel. Capturing vintage architecture, aging buildings and ‘vignettes’ of life have become her focus. Painting exclusively in transparent watercolors and using a layering technique of thin washes, Lucy is able to show warmth, depth and dimension in her paintings.

The style in which Lucy paints is more characteristic of the European watercolorists of the 19th century. She largely paints in the ‘dry brush’ technique and is self-taught. She has worked since childhood in charcoal, pastel, acrylic and oil before concentrating on watercolors. Lucy’s teachers have been fine art galleries in America and abroad, where she has studied master works as well as developed her own style. She holds a Bachelor’s degree from Winthrop University and a Master’s degree from Georgia State University in Atlanta.

Lucy’s accomplishments are diverse, including numerous solo and multiple artist shows and a Highlands Art League Award.  A retrospective of her work was shown at the Marietta-Cobb Museum of Art.  She was the subject of a feature article in the Winthrop University magazine. Ms. Browning has been on the Board of Directors for both the Marietta-Cobb Museum of Art and the Georgia Watercolor Society.  Additionally, she has been the graphic artist for a local publication and a founding member of a local artists’ co-op.

Lucy Browning’s work is in corporate and private collections across the southeast. One of her paintings was chosen to hang in Washington, D.C. in the US Senate office of Senator Johnny Isakson of Georgia.
