Painting outdoors, “en plein aire” is a necessity. It is in nature, a true feeling of the ambiance of a landscape is internalized. Painting in the studio, is then possible, after observing true colors, light, and the atmosphere of a landscape.
When an artist creates a work of art, and someone observes it, they are looking at a self portrait of the artist. Nothing can come out of the artist, that is not within the artist. You are seeing, feeling the artist’s experience, and the depth of their sensibilities.
I paint, primary in Watercolors. I am drawn to the luminosity and the spontaneous nature of the media. Painting with Acrylics and Pastels is also challenging as well. The use of experimental techniques are also used to create art. Combining representational and abstract techniques result, in a painting consisting of planning and chance, much as life is. Abstract patterns, composition, a certain quality of light and atmosphere are also important for a successful dramatic painting.
Barbara Edwards’ work has won Regional and National Awards and are included in Private as well as Corporate Collections.
