To me, art is not an intellectual pursuit with a serious, tortured meaning behind each piece. Art should appeal first to the emotions and then to the mind. The color and form of a work should create a memorable first impression; one that reaches out and pulls the viewer back for a more detailed look. In much the way music reaches a listener by creating a different mood, I hope to create that with the color and feel of my pieces.
I begin working with each piece with a message or quote in mind. This may change to some other idea as the piece evolves. I try to reach the viewer emotionally through color and form, leaving them to contemplate the message underlying the piece.
