| Paul Hand |
Paul Hand was introduced to carving by his dad, Ernest who has been into artwork since the late 1950`s. Paul carved his first piece in 1989. Paul hand carves interesting cypress wood sculptures, which include gators, fish and lizards. These cypress wood sculptures were recently carved, but the cypress trees from which they were carved from were cut down or fell long ago, somewhere around the turn of the twentieth century. He finds the wood in the swamps of Florida. He uses red, yellow and black cypress in his sculptures.
"I find it very interesting to take a piece of wood and turn it into something beautiful. There is nothing like the gratification I get from being covered in sawdust from head to toe and creating a masterpiece every now and then."
Paul now resides in Virginia, but his dad is still in Florida.
